Sustaining Academic Freedom: Ilia State University and its Academic Partnerships with Germany

Organised by the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) in cooperation with Ilia State University, this event brings together representatives from academia, university leadership, research policy, funding organisations and civil society from Germany and Georgia. Against the backdrop of recent political developments affecting higher education and academic freedom in Georgia, the conference aims to create a space for dialogue, international solidarity and the development of concrete perspectives for future cooperation.

The programme includes:

• keynote contributions and a panel discussion on academic freedom and university autonomy,
• exchanges on current developments in Georgian higher education,
• presentations of existing German-Georgian academic partnerships,
• and interactive workshops dedicated to future cooperation, support mechanisms and institutional collaboration.
