The research professorships will be filled by internationally distinguished scholars whose research profiles distinctly intersect with the research portfolios of at least two UA Ruhr universities. A reduced teaching load allows for intensive, focussed research.
The profiles of the professorships were carved out in a participatory process with members of pertinent UA Ruhr faculties. What all three professorships have in common is that they are interdisciplinary by design, and they tie in with emerging innovative fields of research in the social sciences and humanities.
This professorship focusses on the ethical and political implications of digitally assisted curatorial practices from a transdisciplinary perspective, thus holding strong significance for current discourses of cultural and remembrance politics. The professorship will contribute to establishing a distinct research profile in the evolving field of Digital Humanities that ties in with recent developments both on a national and international level, while also providing innovative stimuli to this field.

This professorship is dedicated to the interdisciplinary investigation of practices and orders of (non-)knowledge – a rapidly growing field of research at the interface between social sciences and humanities that has gained particular relevance in recent years. The professorship will assume a pioneering role in establishing this field in German academia.

Critical analysis and contextualisation of contemporary key societal debates are the core concern of this professorship. Paving the way for interdisciplinary collaboration, it realises the potential of the humanities, social sciences, and educational sciences to clarify current debates by historicising, analysing, and sorting out the major fault lines of public conflicts; relevant examples include current discourses on identity and gender politics or climate change. The professorship reconciles scientific excellence with social responsibility. It pursues a dual public orientation by responding to public debates and communicating with a wider audience beyond academia.
