Working across the Borderlands: Epistemic Recognition for Interdisciplinary Research

Workshop for researchers working in interdisciplinary spaces

Why is some knowledge easily heard – and other knowledge easily overlooked – in interdisciplinary work? In this participatory development workshop, the team of the Borderlands project introduces epistemic recognition – and invites participants to help build it.

Drawing on the Borderlands project, the organisers present an emerging framework for understanding how disciplines, power, and context shape whose knowledge counts. Participants will play an active role in testing, challenging, and refining this framework.

Through guided activities, the workshop participants will:

• Reflect on experiences of interdisciplinary collaboration
• Explore dynamics of recognition and misrecognition
• Identify why some knowledge travels – and some does not
• Develop and refine emerging epistemic recognition practices

Take away: a relational-epistemology toolkit – shaped in part by the participants’ own insights and experiences.
